On Wednesday, president Obama will be speaking about the economy at the Memorial Gym at Knox College in Galesburg.
Residents we talked to say they couldn't be more pleased.
"Regardless of what your political beliefs are, the fact that the President is coming to Galesburg, Illinois is a big thing for us in the community," says Doug Owen, a Galesburg resident.
The president will stop in Galesburg and Warrensburg, Missouri to talk about measures he says will help speed up the recovery.
"I think it's nice that he seems to continue to remember Galesburg through all of his travels and all of the places he's been to that somehow Galesburg and Knox College struck a chord with him," says Cassidy Voyles, a Galesburg resident.
Obama will also make his case for spending on infrastructure and for universal pre–school programs.
"I think it's always nice especially at a time like this when we feel like Congress and Washington is ignoring the everyday person. It's nice to have a touch point with somebody from Washington cause it makes us feel like we're not completely invisible," Voyles.
The president is also expected to highlight the economic benefits of overhauling immigration laws.
Residents in Galesburg say there's a reason he chose Galesburg to make his speech.
"Well I think we are pretty representative of the Midwest. We've had, years ago, we've had factories close and we're all trying to hang in there, do our best, and find other reasons why people would want to come. We're promoting tourism and local development and still trying to find ways to bring people to our city and show what we have to offer," says Elaine Clayton, a Galesburg resident.
There has been a switch in congressional representation in Galesburg over the past three years.
"I know Galesburg wants to reinvent itself right now and it would be nice if he had anything to say that would maybe inspire us to go in a different direction," says Voyles.
"He's the voice of America and the fact that he's here and he can kind of see some of our strengths and weaknesses. And if our town can help other towns in the Midwest then that would be great," says Owen.
This won't be the president's first time in Galesburg.
If you'd like to get tickets to the event, you can do so at the Office of Communications at Knox College (311 S Prairie Street, Galesburg) starting on Monday at 1 p.m. Tickets will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. Tickets are free and limited to one per person.
He's made several stops there before, the last time in 2011.
