LOS ANGELES – While the health and welfare of Amanda Bynes has been the cause of widespread concern for quite some time, it seems her antics came to a head in Los Angeles on Monday night when she was accused of starting a fire in a driveway in a Thousand Oaks, her hometown.
The troubled actress was reportedly questioned about the “campfire” by authorities, and was subsequently put in hospital on a 5150 psychiatric hold. 5150 is a section of the California Welfare code, which regulates involuntary hospitalization. It is used "when any person, as a result of mental disorder, is a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled."
Britney Spears was placed under the same 72-hour lock down code during her very public meltdown in early 2008.
"Amanda seems to be doing well," a source told us of her hospital stay, adding that a treatment plan was being discussed. "The thing with Amanda is that it isn't as bizarre as it seems. She knows when to pull it together and act normal."
The night before being taken in, Bynes, 26, is said to have been drunk and caused a disturbance outside a local Thousand Oaks retirement village. The former child star reportedly tried to leave in a taxi, but was kicked out when she declared she had no money, and police were later called when Bynes attempted again to get inside the retirement facility.
This comes as the latest in a deluge of questionable activity, including being kicked out of the Ritz-Carlton and trespassing at an old folks' home.
According to Radar Online, Bynes's parents Rick and Lynn, haven’t spoken with their daughter since she was hospitalized on an involuntary psychiatric hold in Los Angeles but are now considering getting a conservatorship over her.
TMZ reports the woman in whose driveway she started her fire wants her parents to pay for the damage, but they have refused.
